Traditional and Functional: Mirage Flooring
Hardwood floors are very popular in homes today, but it hasn’t always been that
way. Hardwood floors were first introduced in medieval times and
generally were used in multi-level buildings. The planks were
usually of Elm or Oak wood. In later years, wealthier Europeans
began using fine wood flooring in there homes. In North America,
the type of wood flooring used typically depended on the availability and the affordability of the
planks. In earlier times, unfinished pine boards were common in
North American homes. During the Industrial Revolution, strip
floors became popular when factories began mass production of hardwood flooring. Due to lack of proper finishes and protectents, hardwood flooring began to
lose popularity in the late 19th century. Carpet then
became very popular and was usually installed right over the hardwood floors. Through the years, the technology of flooring has advanced. New sealers, finishes, and even new ways to install flooring have been
developed over the years. Today, the fact that hardwood
floors are easier to clean and maintain than carpet, has led it to be more sought after than
ever. Hardwood flooring can also offer a great return on your
investment.
